3 Seconds Magic - GIF Competition - Loftworks - Hama House - Gif-ted

For some reason GIFs keep coming up this February 2014. For example, Tokyo based Loftworks Inc. is organising an animated GIF contest called 3 Seconds Magic

Loftwork is an interesting entity itself, it`s a design and development company on one side but they also happened to run a portfolio network for designers on the other.

loftwork.com is a creative community where you can discover your favorite creators and their works.

But that`s not all, they also run Fab Cafe which is a freelancer workspace and cafe armed with a laser cutter, cutting machine and 3D printer.

Both on their portfolio network as well as in Fab Cafe they are organising competitions such as the beautiful Next Paper Creative, a Global Laser Cutter Design Contenst or the more digital 3 Seconds Magic GIF contest. The GIF contest is still running and you are welcome to submit your own entries, but you can also view submissions already.

The Japanese designer who impressed me so far goes by the name Hama-House. His drawing style reminds me of legendary American cartoonist Chris Ware. He comes up with tongue-in-cheek animations such as below:

On a related note, the other GIF-event this month was the completion of the Show Us Your Type “Tokyo” GIF competition.

SHOW US YOUR TYPE is a project about two things we adore, type and cities. We started this project to provide a creative platform for designers to share their talents and explore cities from a different perspective.

Below you can see samples how designers from different countries express their view about Tokyo in the form of animated GIFs:
