Recently Bento Graphics Inc. – a Tokyo based graphics & web design studio (& the studio behind DMIJ) – launched a new brand called Tokyo Signs which creates:
Products inspired by the streets of Tokyo
The Idea
The design team was looking for an outlet for the visual delights one can encounter at every turn in the busy Tokyo streets. Their aim was to “capture everything we encounter in the Japanese streetscape: Sign boards, advertising, traffic signs, storefronts, neon lights, street art and everything in-between.”
The team uses these kinds of inspirations to create “fresh graphics for products which are a tribute to Tokyo and its visual street culture.”
The Products

Top left to bottom right: Tokyo Roadmarks, Tactile Paving (for blind people), Tokyo Bicycle (roadmark stencil), Shinjuku Station Signage (the signage for various platforms and trains), Roadmarks leggings. More products to come soon!

The Identity & Website
The Tokyo Signs logo takes cues from the glittering neon signs and the Kanji character for Tokyo (東京). The thick line style will be also applied to illustrations.
The homepage of the web shopping site resembles a short stroll in the a Japanese street. The photos are fed by their Instagram account and the products sprinkled in-between pay tribute to their surrounding with street inspired graphics and patterns. After each site reload the layout reorders like the fast changing Japanese cityscape.
